Lula Elsie Berry Underwood Pierce 95 of Louisville, Ky, formerly of Taylor County, Kentucky, died on Monday, April 8, 2002 in Louisville. Daughter of the late George Berry and Lillie Wright Berry, she was born on November 28, 1906 in Green County, Kentucky, and was a member of Sand Lick Separate Baptist Church in Green County, Kentucky. She was married to William Leslie Underwood on August 25, 1925, who preceded her in death on October 19, 1945. She was later married to Alvin Pierce on February 17, 1949, who preceded her in death on November 27, 1989. Survivors include four sons and one daughter, Gerald T. and Wilma Underwood of Louisville Kentucky, Gene and Mary Underwood of Campbellsville, Kentucky, Odell and Barbara Underwood of Montgomery, Illinois, Kenny and Shirley Pierce of Mt. Sherman, Kentucky, and Naomi and Paul Hoepner of Jeffersonville, Indiana. One daughter-in-law Mary Underwood of Sandwich, Illinois.
Also surviving are three step-daughters Geneva and Edward Hunt, Mildred and Jesse Manasco, and Juanita Dickens Perkins all of Campbellsville, Kentucky, one step-son Gene Pierce of Owensboro, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by two sons Earl Underwood and Howard Underwood, and one step-son Paul Buckner Pierce; one brother Shively Berry and one sister Katherine Berry Dickens
