Katherine Ashcraft Townsend, 84, of Norwich passed away Saturday morning, July 17, 2021, at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin.
Kathy was born in Smithville Flats on April 22, 1937. She spent most of her life in Norwich where she attended St. Paul's Catholic school and was a graduate of the Norwich High School. On October 26, 1963 in Norwich she married Donald L. Ashcraft who passed away March 22, 2006. She then married Robert Townsend on May 18, 2007 who passed away December 1, 2011. Kathy and Don spent several years in Florida before returning to Norwich. In her early working years she had worked for Hubbard's Drug store but would be most remembered as a cashier at the A&P grocery store. For the past few years Kathy has made her home at the Chenango Valley Home and was on the first place team of the Wii bowling team. An avid reader she could often be found with a good book in her hand.
Kathy is survived by her children Timothy (Katherine) Ashcraft of Brandon, FL, Tammy (Don) Tubbs of Norwich and Jen (Ken) Ashcraft of Norwich. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial for Kathy will be held on Thursday, July 29, at 9:00 a.m. from St. Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church. The Rev Ralph A. Bove, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 28, from 5-7 p.m.
