William Donald "Bill" Rambo of Pixley passed away April 28, 2011. His wife, Alicia, and their children were by his side.

Bill was born on the family farm in Earlimart on June 9, 1933, the first child of William Lester "Leck" and Beatrice "Bea" (Rossi) Rambo.

He was predeceased by brothers, Norman "Dack" and Orman "Dirk" Rambo. A sister, Beverly, survives.

Bill was retired. He always had a garden and was glad to share his Italian sweet peppers.

He was very proud of his heritage. Maternal grandparents Angelo and Teresa (Panetta) were dairy farmers, part of the turn of the century great immigration wave. Paternal grandparents Judge Commodore and Martha (Gray) farmers, arriving from the Southwest in the early 1920's.

After attending Earlimart School, he graduated from Delano High School in 1952, where he was active in sports, band, FFA and 4-H, earning a scholarship.

He served his country and was a U.S. Navy Veteran, whose family will be eternally grateful for the professional and loving care he received from the Fresno Veterans Administration Hospital and Living Care Facility.

Known as a great cook, when asked he was there for any organization, event, and special occasion to help. He was a member of St. Johns Men's Club, Tulare Roma Lodge, Amvet Post 56, Delano Elks. He was adopted by the Slav and Portuguese Clubs. Past member of Pixley PTA, Lions Club, 4-H Sponsor, St. Aloysius Parent Club and FFA Booster.

He adored his children, Elizabeth Rambo, Ticia McPhetridge and husband Craig, and William Anthony Rambo. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Joseph, Gionna, and Jordan McPhetridge, Sarah, Olivia, and Theresa Rambo, and Great-granddaughter Emily Rose McPhetridge. He leaves behind a sister in law, a niece and nephews, and many devoted cousins and friends.

Viewing was Thursday May 5, 2011 at 5:30 pm at St. John's Church in Tipton; Rosary followed at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass was Friday May 6, 2011 at 10:00am also at St. John's.

Burial followed at the Tipton-Pixley Cemetery.
