James Samuel Stinnett served in the Confederate Army in Company A, 8th Taylor Battalion, Texas Cavalry and Company G, Yager's Texas Cavalry. He enlisted at the age of 19 in Capt. Leonidas Price's Company. James Samuel Stinnett served in Taylor's Battalion on 3 July 1862 at Fort Mason, He served at Nibletts Bluff, Louisiana attending the sick until he was discharged on 18 November 1863.
