Jackie Bob Boyd was born October 29, 1934, to Alva and Edith (Kinder) Boyd, at Porter, Oklahoma. He departed this world in the early morning hours of November 14, 2005, at the age of 71. He was at his residence in Yukon, Oklahoma, and died from an apparent heart attack. The family will be greeting friends Thursday evening between the hours of 6-8p.m. at the Shipman Chapel in Wagoner.
Jack graduated from Porter High School in 1952, having been Valedictorian of both his Junior High and High School classes. He married his high school sweetheart, Jana Swalley, on April 25, 1953, in Porter. He was ordained into the Baptist Church in Proctor, Oklahoma, while going to school at Northeastern State University. He graduated from Golden Gate Seminary in San Francisco, California.
He was the pastor of several churches in California, but when they retired, they came back to Oklahoma and settled in Yukon. He couldn't stay retired, but took over the management of two different business and trade schools. He retired again and managed to go to work for a golf course, where he could play while he worked. At the time of his death, he was the manager of Gailardia Golf Course in Oklahoma City. He was also working on a family history which had already grown to more than 60 pages. The dates and names he accumulated were detailed and factual and the results of his efforts are a gift to those left behind.
Jack is survived by his wife of more than 52 years, Jana Swalley Boyd. His son, Charles Boyd and his wife Vicki of Muskogee. His daughter, Denise and her husband John Reinig, and his daughter Diana Boyd, all of Oklahoma City. His grandchildren are Marty Boyd (who is currently serving a second tour of duty in Iraq) and his wife Emily, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Kaitlyn and Christopher Reinig and Nicholas Boyd of Oklahoma City. In addition, he is survived by a brother, Dan Boyd, and two sisters, Myrna Buster and Lynda Armstrong, all of Porter. His survivors also include Jana's sister, Vana Smith of Porter and her brother Edwin Swalley, Jr and his wife, Frances, of Broken Arrow. Add to this, nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends, including a large number of couples he married.
