Barbara Selena Cook Shelton, 71, of Gardner, KS passed away April 22, 2015 at Olathe Medical Center.

Barbara was born August 18, 1943 in Almy, WY to Lawrence Leroy Cook and Selena Marr (Morris) Cook. She grew up in Evanston, WY on a ranch in Uinta county, homesteaded by her ancestors. Barbara moved to rural Kansas in 1962 and later moved to Belton, MO in 1976 and finally settled in Gardner, KS in 1994. She worked for Bendix-King in Kansas City, MO for 14 years and then for Honeywell in Olathe for 19 years in aerospace assembly division. She also worked at: Allied Signal, Pentax Nuclear Plant, King Radio, General Motors, Savon, SW Bell as an Operator, JC Penney, a Beauty shop and Marysville USD Cafeteria. She retired in 2009.

Barbara married James Wendell Shelton December 23, 2005 at the LDS Church in Olathe, KS and sealed in the LDS Temple, Ogden, UT, December 2008. Barbara was active in the LDS church and enjoyed the Women's Relief Society Socials. She served for a time in a Primary Presidency and in Family History Research for the LDS church. She had a passion for LDS History.

Barbara enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and she took an active role in caring for and attending special activities for her grandchildren, Selena and Clayton. Barbara often visited her daughter's family for Sunday dinners. Her daughter, Synthia, was also her best friend. She enjoyed visiting her son, Stanley, and family in Estes Park and talking with him on the phone. Barbara looked forward to visiting her family in Hilliard, WY for the annual family reunions and Christmas parties. She stayed in touch with her granddaughter, Kandace, on Facebook and visited her when possible. Barbara was loved by her nieces and nephews. Her family was everything to her.

Barbara was an avid reader of suspense and mystery novels. She enjoyed keeping her mind busy with puzzles, crossword, cards and family board games. She loved to laugh and hear funny stories. She loved to travel, she had visited Mexico and Cancun and went on 2 cruises. Her husband Jim was her soul mate in life and in death; he passed away in April 2012. She fondly reminisced about his humor, memories together and funny quotes. She is with him now in love and in peace. She will be irreplaceably missed by her entire family.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her son, Stanley Jason Mars (Tiffany) of Estes Park, CO; daughter, Synthia Sue Wilson (Kenneth) of Olathe, KS. Grandchildren; Kandace Mars of Wichita, KS, Selena and Clayton Wilson of Olathe, KS; step-grandchildren, Tammy Corum, Ricky Gant, Julie Kolterman, Cade and CJ Barleen. Her siblings Lawrence J. (Catherine) Cook, Christine (Rick) Charlesworth, Colleen (Ken) Bruce, Audrey (Bradley) Asay, Micky (Blaine) Odenwalder, Stewart (Wendy) Cook, Boyd (DeAnn) Cook and former husband, Ralph E. Mars.

Funeral services will be 5:30 pm Monday, April 27, 2015 at:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
15915 W. 143rd St, Olathe, KS 66062.
Visitation will be at 4:30 pm prior to the service at the church.

A service will also be held in Wyoming. There will be a viewing held
