FRED DAVIS A celebration of life will be held for Fred Davis on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 3 p.m. at the Lakeside Pavilion at California Park. Fred passed away on Thursday, April 23 in Chico. He was born on June 7, 1924 in San Francisco to Benjamin and Bertha Davis. Fred was raised at Homewood Terrace in San Francisco. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in the European theater as a navigator. He graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in civil engineering. He began his career as the Assistant Public Works Director in Napa. In 1949 he married Elaine Kramer in Victoria British Colombia. In 1953 they moved to Chico where Fred became the Director of Public Works. In 1957 he was appointed City Manager. During his tenure as city manager the city saw great economic growth and fiscal stability. His wife Elaine passed away in 1964 and Fred remarried in 1967 to Joyce Iverson. After Fred retired in 1992 he operated a successful municipal consulting firm for fifteen years. Fred remained very active in retirement serving on the boards of Enloe Hospital Foundation, CSU Chico Foundation, Golden Valley Bank and BCAG. He was also very active with the Chamber of Commerce and the Chico Rotary Club. His survivors include his daughters, Leslie and Debbie and their husbands Gavin and Mike; one grandson, Brandon. Fred's wife Joyce passed away in 2001. Military honors will be conducted at a private graveside service at the Golden Gate National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Brusie Funeral Home.
