In Aug. 1778, Susan Barber married Ethan Allen. Susan Barber, b. 19 Feb. 1758 in Torrington, Litchfield Co., Connecticut, d. before 1788, NY: she is the daughter of Capt. Nathaniel Barber, b. 5 Dec. 1717 Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, d. 8 Mar. 1788 and Hephzibah (Loomis) Barber, b. 5 July 1722 Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, married 13 Sept. 1739 d. 26 Mar. 1793 Torrington, Litchfield Co., CT.
Ethan and Susan settled in near Brattleboro (originally Brattleborough) VT, the oldest town in Vermont. Ethan was reportedly killed in 1789-1790 while felling a tree on land the family had settled.
After Ethan's death, Susan took her children; Susan Barber, b. 19 July 1780 Torrington, Litchfield Co., CT, d. 26 Oct. 1838 Ogden, Monroe Co., NY; married Dr. John Francis Webster, b. 8 June 1780 Tyringham, Berkshire Co., MA, d. 30 Sept. 1838 Ogden, Monroe Co., NY; Ethan Allen, Jr. b. 17 July 1782 Torrington, Litchfield Co., CT, d. 14 Oct. 1825 Busti Chautauqua Co., NY; John Allen b. 1784 d. ? and Barber Allen b. 1786 Brattleboro, Windham Co., VT, d. 19 Jun. 1842 Pavilion, Genesee Co., NY back to CT for a while and later returned to Vermont.
Susan (Barber) Allen remarried - John Gould, b. 1754; John and Susan Gould moved to Ogden, Monroe Co, NY near Rochester. Monroe Co. is on the northeast edge of Genesee Co., NY, where John, Susan and Susan's sons Ethan and Barber Allen later lived.
