Phyllis Darlene Havel, the daughter of William H. Anderson and Agnes V. (Anderson) Anderson, was born Feb. 13, 1930 at Haddam, Ks and passed away on Feb. 21, 2011 at the Republic County-Long Term Care at the age of 81 years and 8 days.
Phyllis was a graduate of the Agenda High School in 1948 and later attained a Master’s Degree in Education from Kansas State University in 1978. Phyllis began her teaching career in 1948 at the Manning Rural School near Agenda, Ks. She taught full time for 39 years with a few years off for family rearing. She taught in various schools through the years which eventually all became a part of Unified School Dist. #455. Phyllis did substitute teaching kindergarten through Sr. High after her initial retirement.
On August 2, 1953, she was united in marriage to Alfred (Al) Havel and to this union was born three daughters: Eileen, Nita, and Sharon.
Pyllis was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belleville, KS., the Naomi Circle of the U.M.W., the National Education Association, the Kansas Education Association and the Delta Kappa Gamma teacher’s sorority.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, infant twin brother and sister Loren and Lorene, and her daughter Eileen.
Phyllis is survived by her husband Alfred (Al) Havel of Belleville, KS; two daughters: Nita (Steve) Newby of Whitewater, KS and Sharon (Steve) Larrick of Baldwin City, KS; one brother Warren Anderson of Hot Springs, AR; three sisters: Wilda (Roland) McKee and Ethelyn Lambott both of Topeka, KS, and Faye (Leon) Hagan of Beatrice, NE; sister-in-laws Viola Hedstrom of Belleville, KS and Blanche Stanton of Liberty, Mo; brother in law George Thompson of Salem, OR; seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 at the First United Methodist church, Belleville, KS with Pastor Lennie Maxwell, officiating. Interment will be at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, KS.
Memorials are suggested to the Parkinson’s foundation or the church.
