Martin Gordon Selfridge, age 52, died Sunday, March 17, 1985, of injuries he received during a skiing accident at Eaglecrest, a family ski resort and skiing school, in Juneau, Alaska. Skiing at a very rapid speed down a steep slope, he reportedly fell, with his skis coming off, and ran into a tree. A physician who was skiing close by discovered the injured skier, giving him first aid. He was flown to Bartlett Memorial Hospital in Juneau, Alaska, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Daily Sitka Sentinel in Sitka, Alaska, reported the incident on Tuesday, March 19, 1985.

His father, Harry Gordon Selfridge, Jr, his mother, Charlotte Elsie (Dennis) Selfridge, his paternal aunts, Violette Buckingham (Selfridge) De Sibour, Beatrice Buckingham (Selfridge) De Sibour, and Rosalie Dorthea Buckingham (Selfridge) de Bolotoff, and cousin, Jean Jacques Henri Blaise De Sibour (1922-1943) predeceased him.
