Mildred M. Cowles, 73, of 313 Allison, died at 9:20 p.m. May 25, 1987, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was born June 16, 1913, in Davis County to Marion and Lorena Tipton Bailey. She owned and operated R & M Ceramics. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Church in Davis County, a Past Noble Grand of Myrah Rebekah Lodge 41, and a member of Daughters of Union Veterans.
She married Roy L. Cowles May 2, 1937, in Davis County. He died in 1978.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Toomey of Ottumwa; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Rose Adams of Drakesville; and a brother John Bailey of Moravia.
The service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, at Johnson Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Ival Robinson of Bible Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Orie McFarland Jr., Robert Bauman, Lowell Sims, Neil Harris, Cecil Jameson, and Francis Wilcox.
The family will be at the funeral chapel 7-8:30 p.m. today.
