He was born Nov. 14, 1900, in Edmunds County to Fredrick and Julia (Bachman) Wolter. He attended rural school in Kent Township and farmed in his teens until 1942 on the family farm in Edmunds County.
He married Doris Bailey in 1923 at Aberdeen. They moved to Redfield in 1942, where he worked at Dakota Hatchery and Mill as the mill manager until retiring in 1975.
He was a member of the Wesleyan Church all his adult life, He "enjoyed woodworking, reading and playing checkers."
Survivors include one son: Rev. Gerald (Helen) Wolter, Rochester, N.Y.; two daughters: Mrs. Arvid (Shirley) Sime, Mina, and Mrs. Orville (Bonnie) Steward, Chelsea; one son-in-law: John Schurch, Redfield; and 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, Dorothea, one brother and three sisters.
