Celebration of life services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Washington Avenue Christian Church, 3800 S. Washington St., with Jim Shelburne officiating. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Jerry was born May 19, 1936, in Visalia, Calif., to Eva Mae and John Rubert Halford. He passed away peacefully into our Heavenly father’s loving hands on April 20, 2015.

He graduated from Plainview High School in 1955 and went on to serve his country with the Marine Corps. On Nov. 3, 1984, he married Kay Coburn in Amarillo. Together they shared many wonderful and memorable years.

He worked at ASARCO for many years, culminating with him serving as president of the union. After ASARCO, he worked and retired from Texas Dodge and from UniFirst after giving nine more years of service. He greatly enjoyed hunting, watching the Dallas Cowboys and western movies and novels. He was very involved with his children and grandchildren, coaching football and baseball at the Maverick Club. In his younger days, he enjoyed play days at Rolling Hills Riding Club, even winning the Pony Express Race in 1986.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Deborah Halford; and a brother, Rusty Halford.

Survivors include his wife, Kay; his children, Jerry “Rookie” Halford and wife Michele of Jacksonville, N.C., Cheri Thompson and husband Kevin of Fort Worth, Darrin Halford and wife Jennifer of Fayetteville, N.C., Tracy Longwell of West Virginia, Shane White and wife Jinger of Amarillo, Shawne White of Amarillo and Shannon Vanover and husband Michael of Amarillo; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eva Fisher of Amarillo; as well as a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank the physicians and staff of VA Community Living Center for their care and compassion.
