William and three of his brothers joined Company B of the 7th Confederate Cavalry Regiment in Carrollton Georgia in August 1862. According to records he was killed in action on the 23rd of June 1864 around Petersburg Virginia (possibly related to the Battle of Jerusalem Plank Road). He left behind a wife 21, Nancy C Camp, and young son 4, William L Camp.
