Civil War
Co. F, 17th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry and
Co. G, 3rd Connecticut Infantry.
Mustered in August 1862. Mustered out July 1865.

Husband of Susanna Shaw

George is the 2nd husband to Susanna. She is Susanna RIHL Leonhard, and married George after his first wife, Mary died in 1886 in New York. They married in 1887 and Susanna became step-mother to George and Mary's daughter, Lydia and then mother-in-law to Lydia when Lydia married her son, Frederick Leonhard. It's interesting that George and Susana and Fredrick and Edward are on the 1900 census, but Lydia isn't after marrying Frederick in 1891.

Note: Lydia M. Leonhard died in Manhattan, New York City on July 2, 1894 according to her Death Certificate # 22068. She is buried in Branchville Cemetery with her parents George W. Shaw and Mary Shaw. This would explain the reason she isn't listed on the 1900 census.
