He was preceded in death by his parents, James Dalton and Edith Beatrice Holley; brother, James Kenneth Holley, son, John Michael Holley; and brother-in-law, Carl Wafford, in-laws. Leroy and Alice Whitley.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War as a forward observer.

He was self-employed business owner in sales, former President of the East Tennessee Quarter Horse Association, and former member of the Corryton Masonic Lodge.
