Gladys was a graduate of Rome High School, Class of 1936, and received her teaching certificate from Mansfield Normal School, Class of 1938. She taught elementary education in the Chestnut Grove School, Keene Summit, PA, West Franklin School, Litchfield School, East Athens School and the Sayre Area Schools until her retirement in 1973. Gladys was a member of the Church of the Redeemer in Sayre, Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 76, Towanda, and the Pennsylvania State Retired Teachers Association. Her life encompassed her family and friends.
Surviving are a daughter, Joanne Kuykendall Sears of Delavan, NY; two sons, Robert H. Kuykendall and his wife, Alice E. of Greenville, PA, and Allen L. Kuykendall of LeRaysville; two granddaughters; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Barnes in 1982; brothers, Elgin Sink, Thomas D. Sink, Paul Sink and Donald Sink and a sister, Elizabeth Sink Kellogg.
Funeral and committal services will be held Thursday, Sept. 2 at 10 a.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with the Rev. Harry L. Ferguson, officiating. The family received friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, at a later date.
