Elzie Clarence Brown, Sr., 72, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 1975, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the son of Armatha B. "Matha/Macie" (Holbrook) [1874-1913] and Joseph Henry Brown [1873-1929][b. 25 Jan 1873, AR; son of Emily G Beatrice Thompson (1852-1898) and Granville Anderson Brown (1846-1921)]. His mother, "Matha", passed away one week before his 11th birthday.

He was a former mayor of Mountainair, former sheriff, and Democratic chairman for Torrance County. He was also a New Mexico delegate to the Democratic National Convention.

He bad been a Mountainair resident for 39 years, operating several businesses in the community.

Casket bearers were: Cliff Chitwood, Jim Brown, Jack Bratcher, Earl Jones, Wallace Heard and Irvin Chisolm.
Honorary bearers were: Phil Kasier, Tom Pounds, Ira Chisum, Glen Williams, Lee Elliott, Dr. Robert Saul, Dr. John Abrums and all friends and neighbors.
