Brush Tribune, Vol. 22, No. 10, 24 August 1917: A. L. Macy received the sad news Saturday night of the death of his Brother, Samuel Macy, at the Navy hospital near Las Animas, which occurred at 10:30 Friday night. The deceased was a retired Army officer of the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He had served in the Boxer trouble in China and was on Admiral Dewey's Flagship at Manila and was retired at the age of 36 years on full pay. A few years ago he went to Naval Hospital at Las Animas because of tuberculosis of the throat. However, a recent development of heart trouble caused his sudden death, which was a shock to his brother here. Mr. Macy left for Las Animas Sunday and accompanied the remains to the family home at La Clede, Mo. for funeral and burial services. Besides a Mother and Brother he leaves a wife, who is a Granddaughter of General Grant, and a little Daughter to mourn his loss.
