Christina T. Cotton was the daughter of Nathaniel Cotton and Hannah Todd. She married John S. Scofield, son of Jared Scofield and Patsey Gray, on October 21, 1851 in Switzerland County, KY.

On June 1, 1881 Christina was admitted to the Central State Hospital in Indianapolis (a hospital for the insane), was sent there by the Ripley County Court and her husband. Upon admission her history showed that she had some signs of mental abberation at the change of life 6 years ago. Lost her daughter 3 years ago and since had suffered periods of mania, at first 2-3 months apart. These periods had increased in frequency and since last November she has been continuously insane and is subject to paroxysms of jealousy and timidity, of rage and melancholy. Violent and suicidal. She was released on September 6, 1881, and her condition was well. (She was there for a period of 3 months, the first time she was admitted).

Their children:

โ— 1. Walter C. Scofield born 1853, he married (1) Louisa Woody on February 27, 1871; (2) Amanda Jane Wooley on January 25, 1874 in Holton, Ripley Co, IN.
