Thurman Aubrey “T.A.” Bumgardner, 82, of Grassy Branch Road, Raccoon, died Friday, March 13, 2015, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born in Dorton, Nov. 1, 1932, the son of the late Ezra Bumgardner and Lydia Vanover Bumgardner.

He was a school teacher, a member of the Pike County Retired Teachers Association, a U.S. Army veteran, a Little League coach and a Kentucky Colonel.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Theron Bumgardner and Clarence Truman Bumgardner; and four sisters, Ruth Johns, Guthrie Anders, Betty Wocieszak and Loretta Hall.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Maynard Bumgardner; three children, Thurman Aubrey Bumgardner and Savoya Davis (William), both of Raccoon, and Stephanie Prater (Kelly) of Kimper; one sister, Ava Thacker of Pasco, Wash.; three grandchildren, Dustin Fain (Linnae), Tristan Colby Davis (Ashley) and Warren Dale Adams; and two great-grandchildren, Isaiah Louis Fain and Chloe Madison Fain.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, in the Community Funeral Home Chapel with Brad Williamson officiating. Burial followed in the Bumgardner/Maynard Cemetery, Raccoon. Arrangements were under direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon
