Catherine grew up between her paternal grandparents’ town house in New York City and “Frostfields”, her mother’s country house in New Castle, on the outskirts of Portsmouth New Hampshire. When her father died while she was only 9 years of age, her mother removed her and her siblings to London to live with a cousin. Catherine and her sister Philippa were educated in day schools in London.
Catherine married two times:
1) Lt. Col. Henry George Alfred Marius Victor Francis Herbert, 6th Earl of Carnarvon (1898-1987) on July 17, 1922 Westminster Abbey, London, England.
2) Lt. Commander, Geoffrey Seymour Grenfell (1898-1940) on September 21, 1938.
