JETHRO BONNEY WOODWARD,

Son of Allen and Lucrete (Hayward) Woodward, was born Oct. 19, 1825, in Candor, N.Y. He made a public confession of his faith in the First Presbyterian Church of Bridgeton, N.J., October, 1857, at the age of thirty-two. His preparatory studies were pursued in the Owego Academy, New York, under William Smyth and Charles R. Cowan. He engaged in teaching from 1853 to 1867, except during the years 1861-64, when he served with the regiment of New Jersey Volunteers in the Army of the Potomac. He entered the Seminary at Princeton in 1870, remaining there two years. He was licensed by the Presbytery of Newton April 20, 1871, and ordained by the same Presbytery May 2, 1872, being at the same time installed pastor of the church at La Fayette, N. J., from which he was released April 12, 1882. He was pastor of the church at East Stroudsburg, Pa., from November, 1882, to April, 1886; stated supply of the Prompton and Waymart churches, Pa., from May, 1886, to October 1887; stated supply of the church at Covington, Pa., from 1889 to 1893. After this he resided without charge at Covington until 1897. He supplied the charge at Knoxville, Pa., from 1897 to 1898; this was his last regular pastoral work. He resided in Covington from 1898 to 1902; in Ferenvaugh, N.Y., from 1902 to 1904, and at Arnot, Pa., from 1904 to 1908. He died March 23, 1908, at Covington, Pa., of the effects of grippe, in the 82d year of his age. He was buried at Covington.
He was married April 27, 1882, in Trenton, to Elizabeth Marshall, who died in February, 1896.
