Born into slavery, in Kentucky, and for thirty one years one of nearly a hundred other slaves who worked on one of the big plantaations in the South, was the experience of James Fredrick Grissom, colored, a resident of Shelbyville Indiana for fifty years. Survived by his widow and eight children: Mrs. Curtis (Arow) Gunn, Mrs. Lizzie Withall, Blanch, Myrtle, Noble, Alvin, Frank and James Grissom. Son of Braxton and Mary (Seigo) Grissom both born in Kentucky
