Duck is survived by his mother, Faye Thornton Cartwright Hissom, and his wife, Markita Hissom. He was 1967 graduate of Poca (WV) High School, West Virginia State College and Marshall University. He was a U S Army veteran, an officer stationed at Fort Knox, KY. He owned and operated Southeastern Equipment Services, Charleston, SC for 15 years, and was a former employee of Chaugach Government Service, Charleston, SC and Burkley Electric. He sold real estate for Coldwell Banker, as well. He returned to West Virginia in 2012 and was employed by West Virginia Marine for two years.
