Iona was raised in Wells and attended Albany Business College after graduating from Wells High School. She loved music and participated in school productions and church ministries.
Iona married Clarence Wilson June 8, 1946. They lived in the Albany area for several years and then moved to Speculator in 1957, where they owned and operated Wilson Oil Heat. They moved to Florida in 1981, and Clarence died there on June 17, 1982.
