Helen Joyce Francis, 86, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away early Thursday, October 3, 2013, at her home.

She was born October 3, 1927, in Neosho Falls, Kansas, the daughter of Ova M. and Minnie Irene "Dolly" (Boughton) Stephens.

She graduated from Neosho Falls High School and then moved to Topeka where she was employed as a secretary for the Federal Government.

In 1946 she and Roy Lewis, Jr. were married in Neosho Falls, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1965. They lived in Fredonia and then Humboldt, KS. Helen worked as the secretary for Humboldt High School.

Helen then moved to Chapman, Kansas, where she did administrative work for the VA in Junction City and Smoky Hill.

On May 24, 1975, Helen and Scott E. Francis were married in Chapman, Kansas. They moved to Wichita and then to Joplin, Missouri. In 2006 she and Scott moved to Burlington and he preceded her in death on November 19, 2009.

Helen worked throughout her life in administrative professions dedicated to helping people, including children, veterans, and others.

In her leisure time she enjoyed traveling, quilting, gardening, and other activities.

She was a former member of the Neosho Falls United Methodist Church and was currently a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and in early years was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Gerald, Morris, Curtis, and Tom Stephens; and a sister, Jane Jensen.

She leaves four sons, Gary Lewis and wife Anita, of St. Louis, MO, and Richard, Steve and Paul Lewis, all of Yates Center, KS; two daughters, Marcia Morrow, of Ft. Worth, TX, and Donna German, of Dallas, TX; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Blanche Stephens, of Girard, KS, and Mary Stephens, of Salina, KS; many other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Francis was cremated. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 7, 2013, at the Neosho Falls United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Neosho Falls United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, PO Box 277, Burlington, Kansas 66839.
