Steven Glenn Smith, 67, submissively and peacefully succumbed to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”) at the Davis Hospital and Medical Center in Layton, Utah on April 9, 2015. Steve was born to Verle Gardner and Florence June Wariner Smith in Santa Ana, California on April 8, 1948. He was a long-term resident of Washington and spent most of his career as an engineer for the Boeing Company.

Steve never took for granted the beauty our God created on this earth. Throughout his entire life, he was drawn to the undulating waves of the ocean, the soothing rhythm emanating from the strings of his cello and the tender touch of his wife’s hand. He stood like a tall, stubborn and stalwart lighthouse in the ocean of life – a shining example to all around him, never bending to the will of man, and providing guidance even in the roughest of storms to all who looked his way. His mind was one of his most valuable possessions. He loved to imagine, create, engineer and learn from the best books. He was a fount of profound knowledge both of things temporal and spiritual. Steve had an adventurous spirit but was firmly anchored to his responsibilities as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, engineer and Latter-day Saint. While his spirit is finally free, his light will continue to shine on the immense legacy he has left behind.

Steve will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 44 years, Barbara Lynn Park Smith, his nine children and thirty-four grandchildren. His children and their children are: Jennie (Joshua) Wieland with their children Anne-Marie, Kristopher, Jared, Timothy, Samuel and Sarah; Amy (Joshua) Maker with their children Nathanael, Cori, Brooke, Tonya and Abigail; Rachel (Bruce) Black with their children Eithen, Jocelynn, Cameron and Brandon; Jacob (Melissa) Smith with their children Rebekah, Sapphira, Zachariah and Lazarus; Stephanie (Scott) Crook with their children Kaytee and Dawson; Elisa (Wesley) Bingham with their children Karissa, Callie, Jacqueline, Julia, Riley and Mckenzie; Maegan (James “Boz”) Millar with their children Elyette, Jack, Charlotte and Audrey; Matthew (Gabriela) Smith with their child River; and Marissa (Carson) Stam with their children Greyson and Lincoln.
