OBITUARY - DeLONG.
Margaret DOWNEY, daughter of the Rev. Samuel and Martha Evans DOWNEY, was born in Boone county, Indiana, Dec. 24, 1841, and when about six years of age moved with her parents to Jefferson county, Iowa, by the way of ox teams and lived near Abbington, Iowa, until the year of 1856, when she moved with her parents to Harrison county, Mo., Clay township. When she 15 years of age her father entered the land where Mr. I. N. NAUMAN now [1835] lives. She knew the many experiences of making a home in the new western country.

At the age of 17 years she was united in marriage to Calvin GRAHAM, April 21, 1859, and on Sept. 24, 1859, her young husband was called to the great beyond by that dreadful disease typhoid fever, leaving her a young widow of only six months of wedded life.

On Nov. 23, 1862, she was married to Samuel W. DeLONG. To his union eight children were born, namely, Dr. S. W. [Samuel Warren] DeLONG of Tingley, Ia., Joseph A. DeLONG of near Akron, Mo., William C. of Eagleville, Mo., Mrs. Clara HARTMAN of Oklahoma City, Okla., Robert F. near the DOWNEY church and schoolhouse, and Mrs. Edna HAMILTON of near Akron, Mo., where Mother DeLONG had made her home the last 15 years, and where she had been tenderly cared for by her loving daughter and family.

Besides her beloved sons and daughters she leaves to mourn her departure, 34 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and one son-in-law, Charley HAMILTON, also a host of friends and relatives.

One son, Beechner, one daughter, Martha DeLONG PRYUN, and the dear father preceded her to the great beyond, leaving her a widow of nearing 33 years.

Mother DeLONG was 93 years, one month and 11 days old. She was an affectionate wife, a kind loving mother to her children and was always thoughtful and willing to lend a helping hand to those in need or distress. Her father, Samuel DOWNEY, was a pioneer minister of the Gospel, Church of Christ, and went horseback to his regular places of meetings in Harrison and Mercer counties [Missouri], preaching in the log schoolhouses.

Mother DeLONG obeyed the Gosepl and was baptized at the age of 16 years, and tried to live and conduct her life as a true Christian. The last few years she was not permitted to attend church services because of ill health but was always much interested in work. She loved to visit God's people. Her home was always a welcome place for ministers of the gospel. She always taught and prayed for her children to live true Christians, that they might all be prepared for that Heavenly home.

Mother DeLONG passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 1935. The Rev. and Mrs. W. S. HOAR, Wes BOOTH and Mrs. Elizabeth SORENSON sang, "Jesus Is Mine," "Nearer, My God, To Thee," and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." Flower bearers were Thelma MONTGOMERY, Louise STILL and Florence HAMILTON. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Frank DeLONG, Lee DeLONG, Floyd DeLONG, Dwight DeLONG, Jasper HAMILTON and Clarence HAMILTON.
