KANSAS CITY, Mo. - LaNell M. (Bennett) Apple, 92, of Kansas City, formerly Maryville, Mo., passed away peacefully and with God's grace on Monday, June 9, 2008, in Kansas City.
LaNell was born in Lacona, Iowa, on May 26, 1916, and was the oldest of 13 children.
She was graduated from high school in Sheridan, Iowa, as the class valedictorian and began teaching at age 18 in a one-room school house near Eagleville, Mo.
She married Don Apple in Kansas City in 1949. Later she taught 2nd grade at Eugene Field Elementary in Maryville, Mo., from 1969 to 1986 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She retired and moved to Kansas City in 1986 to be close to her grandchildren.
LaNell was a member and librarian for St. Luke's Methodist Church.
She will best be remembered as a devoted mother, teacher and an encourager to all who knew her.
LaNell was preceded in death by her sisters, Wilma Irene Bennett, Lorene Brown, Norma Henline and Mary Ann Russell; and brothers, Keith Bennett, Ed Bennett and Orville Wayne Bennett.
She is survived by her sisters, Wanda Cramer and Louise Wormington; and brothers, Otto (Scott) Bennett, Bernard (Jeep) Bennett and Dean Bennett.
Immediate family survivors include her two sons and daughter-in-law, Mark Apple of Independence, Mo.; and Terry and Pam Apple of Overland Park, Kan.; and five grandchildren, Shaun, Austin, Laura, Ashley and Natalie.
Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, Mo. The memorial graveside service and inurnment will be at a later date near the family farm at the Allen Cemetery of Eagleville.
