Obituary
Emily Dunkerson was born June 14, 1829 in Christie (sic) county, Ky. In 1836 she moved with her parents to Livingston county, Mo., where she was married to Horace Alston Allen Nov. 13, 1849. To this union four children were born, namely Dr. J. G. and H. L. Allen of this place; Mrs. Elmira Ballew of near Eagleville, and Mrs. Alice Hobbs, of Eagleville. Thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren are left to mourn the departure of a loving grandmother.
The husband of the deceased preceded her to the "Great Beyond" in 1858.
Grandma was a devoted worker in the Christian church, having joined that sect about the year 1849, under the teachings of Rev. John S. Allen. On the evening of Sept. 23, 1908 at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 9 days, her spirit took its flight to begin a life anew in a better and brighter world beyond.
She was for many years afflicted, which she bore with patience as well as her last affliction, cancer of the stomach. Short funeral services were held at the home of George Ballew, conducted by Rev. W. H. Carter, after which a large concourse of sorrowing friends followed the remains to the Dundeson (sic) cemetery, where the body of Grandma Allen were tenderly laid to rest beside her husband.
