Willie entered the United States Army December 27, 1943 taking basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was later deployed to New York and the on to Liverpool, England. He suffered two wounds during the war. One of his wounds to his shoulder and one to his skull. He served in 5 major battles during World War II. They consisted of; The Battle of the Bulge, Battle of Normandy Beach, the Rhineland River Battle and 2 other. Willie was awarded many medals for his brave service to our country. Among them: Combat Infantry Medal, Sharpshooter Medal, Machine Gunner, European African Middle Eastern Theater, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Citation Medal, 2 overseas bars, World War II Victory Medal, Bronze Star with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Honorable Service Lapel Pin and 2 Purple Hearts. When he returned home from the military October 28, 1945, Willie was ready to start a home and family.
He married Sophia Baker of Clay County, Kentucky January 31, 1947. God blessed them with 5 children: Daniel, Wanda, Lee, Louise, Benny and also a son Larry Wayne who died at birth.
They were blessed with 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Willie worked at Production Plating in Lebanon, Ohio until they moved to Tennessee. He then went to Borden Chemical and later retired from the Otterbein Home Hospital.
He was a charter member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church of God on St. Rt. 350 and later a member of the Full Gospel Church of God on Deerfield Road, Lebanon, Ohio.
Visitation Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 4pm until 8pm at the Full Gospel Church of God, 1502 Deerfield Road, Lebanon, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 10am at the church with burial to follow in the Deerfield Cemetery, South Lebanon, Ohio.
He will be missed greatly by his loving family, friends and brothers and sisters in the Lord.
