Mrs. Ellen Reese.

Mrs. Ellen Reese, a well known Chariton lady, died at her home, 818 N. Grand street, on Thursday noon, November 21, 1935, at the age of 88 years, 8 months, and 20 days, after an illness of five weeks with heart trouble.

Funeral rites, conducted by the Rev. E. L. Stone, of Knoxville, formerly of Chariton, were held at the Methodist church on Saturday forenoon at 10:30 o'clock and burial was in the cemetery in Osceola.

Elizabeth Carson, daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth Carson, was born in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania, on February 1, 1847. She was the last surviving member of a family of nine children. With her parents with she moved to Clarke county, Iowa, in 1856, when she was but nine years old, and where she grew to womanhood. She was married to John Washington Reese on August 20, 1863, who preceded her in death on August 7, 1900.

At an early age she united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Ottawa, Iowa. In 1885 she and family moved to Chariton, Iowa, and this place had since been her home. Soon after coming to Chariton she transferred her membership to the first M. E. church of Chariton, of which she remained a faithful and consistent member until called to her heavenly home. She was a good, loving companion, a devoted mother, a kind neighbor, one who enjoyed the very high regard and esteem of all who knew her.

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Reese, four daughters and one son, all of whom are living. They are Mrs. Fred Martin, of Indianola, Ia., Mrs. Robert Waynick, Woodland, Calif., Adda Reese and Mrs. Ida Culbertson, of Chariton; and Dr. Joseph Reese, of Osceola.

Among those from out of town in attendance at the funeral services were Dr. and Mrs. Jos. Reese, of Osceola; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Martin, of Indianola; Dr. and Mrs Robert Culbertson, of St. Ausgar; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Murray and daughter, Bernice, of Lamoni; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. McCoy, of Des Moines; Mrs. Sarah Carson and son, Bert Carson, wife and son of Woodburn; Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Marquis of Osceola; Mrs. C. B. Martin, Mason City.
