A VETERAN FALLS DEAD

William W. Wagner of Marburg Dies on Centre Square.

William Wagner, a Civil War Veteran who resided between Marburg and New Sinsheim, died suddenly of paralysis at 1:15 p.m. while sitting on a bench within the oval on Fountain Square.
Mr. Wagner, who is aged 79 years, spent Monday night in Hanover, the guest of Henry K. Wentz of Pleasant St. and in company with Mr. Wentz attended a meeting of Major Jenkins Post #99 GAR.
The old gentleman who was well acquainted in Hanover, spent Tuesday morning conversing with his many friends and about noon occupied a seat within the fountain oval, where in the act of cutting a piece of tobacco, he fell over and expired.
Mr. A. Biddle and John Shanebrook ran to the old mans assistance and carried him to the office of Dr. R. N. Meisenhelder who was absent at the time; Dr. L. M. Bailey was then summoned who pronounced death due to paralysis.
Deceased enlisted as a Private in Co. B 166th Vol., Oct 24, 1862 and was discharged from service July 28, 1863 on account of expiration of term of service.
He was a member of Major Jenkins Post #99 GAR and a pensioner.
He is survived by four sons and two daughters. His wife who was a Miss Kessler, died four years ago. The sons are George, Eli and Jacob Wagner of Manheim Township and E. K. Wagner of Penn Township. Mrs. Emma Gerber of Mount Joy, Lancaster County and Mrs. Ida Amspacher of Spring Grove are the daughters.
The remains were removed to his late home Tuesday afternoon by Bair Brothers Funeral Directors.
Funeral was on Thursday, April 13 at 9 a.m. at his late home between Marburg and New Sinsheim. After services at the house interment was made at Dubs Church. Rev. J. A. Metzger conducted the services.
A delegation of Post #99 GAR attended the funeral, leaving the Post in a passenger wagon at 8 a.m.
