Margaret Ann was the 2nd of 4 wives of Charles Monroe VanDine. He had nine children with his first wife, most of whom were still at home with him when he married Minnie's mother. Minnie's mother, Margaret Ann, died on 20 April 1889 at the age of 42. At that time, Minnie was just 2 years old, and her father felt that he would not be able to raise Minnie and her brother and sister well, so he put her up for adoption and agreed to let Milton Hadley Elliott and Margaret DOYLE Elliott of Van Buren, Grant Co., IN adopt her. Minnie always considered the Elliotts her parents. Yet, over the years she was still able to keep in touch with her 2 siblings; Julia who was 2-1/2 years older and Issac Finlay who was 4 years older than she was. They still saw each other when they were well into their 60's.
The Elliotts purchased a variety of items at a mercantile in Van Buren, IN where a young man named Charles Allen Westfall worked for the owners of the mercantile. Minnie and Charlie met one day when Charlie was making a delivery to her parent's home. And the rest is history....Minnie became the bride of Charles Allen Westfall on June 6, 1908, when Minnie was 21 and Charlie was 27. They raised 4 daughters: M. Margaret, Virginia Helen, Shirley Isobel, and Barbara Jeanne (my Mother).
Minnie was my Maternal Grandmother.
