Willie Fairfax's full name was William Randloph Fairfax. Research involving his signature on his World War I Draft Registration, the 1900 census, accounts of soldiers serving in WWI and other records indicate that he used the nickname "Willie" almost exclusively throughout his short life.

Information on his draft registration card verifies that he was born in Richmond, Virginia on 24 June 1893; he was tall and slender with brown eyes and dark brown hair. Military records state that he was a private in the Maryland Infantry, shipped overseas on 15 June 1918, and died of influenza on 1 October 1918. Death notes state that he "died in World War service under honorable conditions." He received the decoration of Order of St. Sava (Serbian).

Thanks to contributor Angel of Flowers (#47082087) for supplying Willie Fairfax's full name.

Although several records indicate that Willie Fairfax died in Virginia, the Death notes referenced above states that he was "Overseas 6/15/18 to death...." Research by Contributor suef (#47116378) confirms that Willie died in France rather than Virginia. According to her research, he was originally buried in France, but was returned to the U.S. and buried here in June of 1921 (10/2023).
