John was united in marriage with Mary O'Connell on June 17, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gaylord where he and Mary settled down. John and Mary later moved to Allen Park, Michigan, for work reasons and started their family.
John worked at Hoskins Manufacturing for 30 years as an inspector. Following his retirement, he and Mary then moved to the Onaway area in 1980.
He then spent the next 35 years of his life enjoying the outdoors; hunting, trout fishing and ice fishing. John was a talented man and especially loved carving things. He loved people and had a kind and generous spirit.
John was proud to have served our country in the United States Army in the Pacific during World War II. He belonged to the 136th Infantry-33rd Division.
He was a dedicated member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Onaway, as well as the Knights of Columbus; obtaining the title of Third Degree Knight. John was also on the Northland Senior Pool League and was a life member of the Gaylord VFW Post.

Visitation for family and friends of John C. Dreffs will be held at the Chagnon Funeral Home in Onaway on Monday, April 13, 2015, from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary/Wake service to be held at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Onaway. Father Peter Eke will officiate.
John's final resting place will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Vanderbilt.
