Domingo arrived in the United States at Laredo, Texas in 1882. He married Jacoba Garza and they had two children together: Dolores Gonzalez and Thomas Gonzalez. Dolores Gonzalez Quintanilla was singer Selena Quintanilla's great-grandmother.
Domingo later remarried to Virginia de Hoyos. They had six children. The family lived in San Antonio for many years. Domingo was called "Old Daddy" and Virginia was called "Old Mama."

Domingo was a physician. He maintained an office at Meier's Pharmacy on West Commerce Street in San Antonio. He proudly delivered some of his grandchildren.
Domingo died on May 25, 1942 in San Antonio at the age of 77, and was buried in San Fernando #2 cemetery. He used the surname "Gonzales" and "Gonzalez" interchangeably throughout his life, a pattern which has continued with his descendants. Note that his gravestone bears the "Gonzalez" name.

GONZALES—Dr. Domingo Gonzales of 1314 W Craig Place passed away Monday, May 25, 1942, in his seventy-seventh year. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Virginia Gonzales; daughters, Mrs. Virginia G. Guerrero; Mrs. Juanita G. Boyd; sons, Jesus, Paul, Bidal [Vidal] and Domingo Gonzales Jr.: brother, Gregorio Gonzales, all of San Antonio; 16, grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of the Alamo Funeral home Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. Interment in the San Fernando Cemetery No. 2. Arrangements by the Alamo Funeral home.
