Tula Elise Godwin Tilton, 89, a beloved mother and "Granny Tula" and the widow of Albert Melton Tilton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, June 7, 2022, at her residence surrounded by many of her loved ones.

Tula was born the daughter of Duffie Godwin and Ethel Emma Cox Godwin on September 23, 1932, in Andrews.

She retired from Oneita Knitting Mills after 40 years of service. After retirement, she continued in the knitting industry serving an additional 10 years. She was a lifelong member of Happy Home Free Will Baptist Church where she served in the Women's Auxiliary and Widow's Circle. Her greatest achievement and pride were her family. She loved being a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished Granny, and caring sister. Her home was always full of love, laughter, and was an open door to everyone.

She is survived by five children, Sylvia Jordan (Donald), Van Tilton, Dan Tilton (Wanda), Teressa Gamble (Randy), and Bruce Tilton (Tammy); eleven grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Gladys Powell; a brother, Gerthie Godwin (Grace), a sister-in-law, Louvenia Godwin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Justin Lee Gamble; her siblings, Donnie Olin Godwin, Lydia Mae Ard (Malcolm), Cora Godwin, Duffie Godwin Jr., Elbert Godwin, and W.J. Godwin; and a brother-in-law, Hubert.

A Home Going Celebration will be 5PM, Friday, June 10, 2022, at the Happy Home Free Will Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Marty Cox, Rev. Allen Ard, and Rev. Randy Gamble. Internment directed by McKenzie Funeral Home will follow in the Piney Forest Cemetery.

The Tilton family will receive family and friends prior to the service from 3:30-4:30PM in the church sanctuary.
