Adelia Brown was born to Robert E Brown and Mary Ann Stockton near Rising Sun, in what was then Dearborn County, now Ohio County, Indiana. After her father died her mother, with her two daughters, returned to the home of her father, Israel F Stockton, in Dearborn County, where Adelia was raised.
The family migrated to Henderson County Illinois, where Adelia married Sellers Wickersham, a tailor, in 1844. They lived for a time in Highland County, Ohio, then returned to Illinois.
Adelia remained very close with her aunt, Nancy Stockton, with whom she lived for periods of time in Minneapolis after Sellers Wickersham died.
Adleia and Sellers had one child, a son, Ellis Irving Wickersham.
