Bernard Charles Bloom, 80, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Hickory Creek of Scottsburg.

He was born in Harrington, Delaware, the son of the late Fred and Gladys (Zelmar) Bloom.

Bernard graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1953 and later earned an Associate's Degree while in the Air Force. He was a retired mechanic and millwright for the old American Can Company in Austin, Indiana where he worked for 37 years and he also worked at Scott's Ace Hardware after retirement. Bernard was a member of the Fairview Christian Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran. Generous with his time and talents, he dedicated himself to serving the youth in the Scott County area. For several years he served as an assistant scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed coaching several teams in the Scott County Little League program. Fishing, traveling, Indiana basketball and spending time with his children and grandchildren were also his passions.

Bernard was preceded in death by two brothers, Donnie and Bud Bloom and two sisters, Ruth Smith and Hazel Bloom.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sue (Rose) Bloom; a daughter, Connie (Stacy) Coartney of Crestwood, Kentucky; two sons, Greg Bloom of Tampa, Florida and Chris Bloom of Madison, Indiana; six grandchildren, Kelissa Bloom, Jonathan, Evan, Catherine and Eleanor Coartney and Isabella Bloom and one great grandson, Seth Berggren and several nieces and nephews.
