Eliza was the wife of Lemuel Phillips. They parented the following children in birth order: John, William, James, Anna, Caroline, Thomas, Benjamin, Lemuel and Robert. All the children were born in Arkansas. Robert was born in 1863; therefore, it is likely that the Lemuel, Sr died during or just after the Civil War. Eliza is listed in the 1870 and 1880 US Census for Wallace Township, Benton County, Arkansas. Then was listed as a widow with some of the younger children.
Thomas died in the 1880's and is buried next to his mother.

There are three older children. Sarah born about 1832, Priscilla born 1835, and Mary J born about 1839. They all appeared along with John, William, James, Hannah and Caroline on the 1850 census.

Daughter of Richard "Dick" Burgess and Elizabeth 'Betsy Hall [married Oct 2, 1810 in Burke County, N.C.]

Wife of Lemial Phillips, born about 1813 in Tenn., death unknown. Lemial was the son of Solomon Phillips, who died about 1850 in Benton County, AR, and his wife Priscilla Harbert.

Census records for 1850 through 1880 show Eliza with several of her children. The census records indicate that she was born in Tennessee. She appeared as a window in 1870 and 1880 Census with a few of the younger children. Robert was the youngest and born about 1863. Lemuel only appears in the 1850 and 1860 Census. It is my opinion that he died during or just after the Civil War. Tennessee Marriage records at Ancestry listed Lemuel marrying Eliza P Goff on 05 June 1833. This would agree with the birth of their first child in 1834, Sarah Phillips. Three of their eldest children were listed as being born in TN.

Eliza Burgess was the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Burgess. She married Lemuel Phillips in 1832. Their daughter is Caroline Belevedere Phillips.
