Eugene was a machinist who worked at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. He came to America from Ireland in 1872 and was naturalized in 1880. Eugene lost his first wife Sarah in 1907 and later remarried. My mother remembers hearing from her grandmother, Mary Agnes O'Brien, that Eugene's second wife -- Sallie Sweeney -- was not liked much by Sarah and Eugene's daughters from the first marriage, and threw Sallie's things out the window of their house when she moved in. In 1917-18 and maybe longer, he lived at 326 S. 5th Street in suburban Darby, which is on the west side of Philadelphia and close to the Navy Yards. In 1880, he was living with the Ann Marten family in Philadelphia.
