Father: Jonathan Mason
Mother: Susannah Powell Mason
Mr. Jonathan Mason, a well-known resident of Boston, and a representative of a family long prominent here, died Thursday morning in the 80th year of his age. Mr. Mason entered Harvard University in the class of 1814, but was prevented by ill health from taking the full course. Possessed of ample means, he spent much time in travel, spending several years in Europe, where he collected a number of art treasures. He was a great lover of art, of which he was a liberal patron, and he was himself an amateur artist. Alston, Leslie and Harding were numbered among his friends. He was an occasional contributor to the press years ago. Two sons and one daughter survive him. One of his sons fell in the late Civil War. One of the daughters was the wife of the late Samuel Hooper, and after that gentleman's death became the wife of Charles Sumner. The late Dr. John H Warren, David Sears, Patrick Grant and Samuel Parkman married his sisters.
