Martha Elizabeth Smart was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Sallie Scott Burton Smart and twin to Mary Hannah Smart(1901-1902). She married Luther Benson Beatley. Luther's death certificate indicates he was divorced at the time of his death.

Martha's obit reads: Services for Martha E. Beatley, 94, formerly of Fort Boone Plaza, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Rogers Funeral Home. She died early Wednesday at Bluegrass Regional Medical Center. Burial will be in the Versailles Cemetery. A native of Mercer County, she worked in the Elkhorn School cafeteria for 29 years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Lohstroh, of Reading, Ohio; a son, Luther Beatley, Owensboro; a special friend, Velma Dempsey; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Sallie Burton Smart and the widow of Luther Beatley. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Todd; a son William Beatley; a sister, Maude Gordon; and two brothers E.B. Smart and John Smart.
