A daughter of the late Robert "Dude" and Hattie Caldwell Compton, Carolyn was a native of Greenville her entire life. She was a member of Wayside Baptist Church and a former member of Rutherford Road Baptist Church for over 55 years, where she served as Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher, choir member and church treasurer. She also was very active with Samaritan's Purse, volunteering with Operation Christmas Child, touching many children's lives.
Carolyn retired from Sevier Middle School, where she worked as a cafeteria manager, but went back to work as a teacher at Disciples United Methodist Church Child Development Center, which she later retired from.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Lainey and Ray Lee.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Head in 1983; her son, Nicholas Head in 2014; six brothers, Harold, Fred, Bill, Jack, Jim and Joe Compton; and two sisters, Mary Kellett and Alice Bryant.
Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in the chapel of The Mackey Mortuary. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:45 AM Tuesday, prior to services at The Mackey Mortuary.
Special thanks to the staff at NHC Maudlin and her niece, Beth Kellett. She fought many battles with her health and lived longer than any of her siblings. Her battle on earth is over and her real life is now beginning.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mrs. Head's memory may be made to Operation Christmas Child, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
