William G. Goldsmith, 69, of Alto Pass, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Union County Hospital at 6 pm Saturday. Mr. Goldsmith was stricken critically ill while at home. He had been released from Doctors Hospital, Carbondale, earlier Saturday.
Mr. Goldsmith was a member of the Limestone Baptist Church, north of Cobden. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Alto Pass American Legion Post 1013.
He was born Oct. 29, 1898 in Mt. Glen, southwest of Cobden, the son of Enos and Lucinda Lasley Goldsmith. He was married to Beulah Irvin, July 4, 1920 in Cobden.
Besides his wife he leaves daughters, Marguerite Harris and Barbara Adams; sons, Raymond and Virgil; brothers, Charles and Fred; half sisters, Mattalee Tally and Ruby Morris; and half brothers, Walter, Olin and James.
Funeral services will be Tuesday in the McCarty Funeral Chapel, Alto Pass. Burial will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery.
