Odd Torsteinsen Aakre was born in Norway on Nov 11, 1878, the third of four sons born to Torstein Jonson Aakre (1838 - 1914) and Boel Torsteindatter Onarheim (24 Jul 1840 – 19 Aug 1921). Odd had three brothers:

* Jon Torsteinsen Aakre (1874 - 1928)
* Torstein Torsteinsen Aakre (1875 - 1956)
* Johannes Torsteinsen Aakre (1881 - 1949)

Odd's parents sent their three youngest sons, Torstein, Odd and Johannes to emigrate to the United States in 1893, 1895 and 1899 respectively. The reason for doing so was to keep them from being drafted into the Swedish army (Sweden and Norway were a single country until 1905). The eldest son, Jon, remained with his parents to help work the family farm.

Odd emigrated to the United States, arriving on Mar 13, 1895, settling first in Iowa. At some point, probably when he entered the U.S., he changed the spelling of "Aakre" to "Akre." He became a blacksmith by trade.

On Apr 30, 1902, Odd married Emma Petrina Larson (1884 - 1945). They had three children:

* LeRoy Walter Akre (1903 - 1988)
* Ruby Blanche Akre Nellins (1904 - 2008)
* Harley Norman Akre (1907 - 1966)

Odd's three children were all born in Iowa. The 1910 census records him as living in Minnesota, where he apparently lived for the rest of his life. He and his Emma apparently divorced or separated sometime before his death.

Odd died at 2:05 p.m. on Sep 7, 1939 in Le Center, Minnesota. His death certificate states that he was buried or removed to Le Center, but the exact location of his burial has not been identified.
