Melvin Newton Gartman, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at his home in Graham. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at the Morrison Funeral Home Chapel with Dorman Holub, minister at Eastside Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Mr. Gartman was born Sept. 20, 1913, in Graham to the late Willie Eli and Cora French Gartman. He married Gertie Louise Shepard, Sept. 26, 1933, in Weatherford. She preceded him in death Jan. 19, 2004. Mr. Gartman was a farmer and oil field pumper in Young County most of his life. He was a member of Eastside Church of Christ and Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers Association.
He is survived by one daughter, Melva Gartman of Graham; one foster son, Bill Cunningham of Arkansas; three brothers, Don Gartman of Abilene, Kenneth Gartman of San Angelo and Jay Gartman of Willow Park; one sister, Lois Stinnet of San Angelo; five grandchildren, Tim Ferguson, Fonda Burke, Dana Baldwin, and Monty and Chad Stephens; and numerous great- and great-great- grandchildren.
Mr. Gartman was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Jean Stephens; and a granddaughter, Pam Wemhaner.
