Wayne "Jake" Murphy

Wayne “Jake” Murphy, 71 of Canton, Missouri and formerly of Williamstown, Missouri died Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at his home in Canton.

The son of Oral Edward and Edna Marilyn (McIntosh) Murphy was born on February 18, 1944 at Keokuk, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Violet “Bernie” Riney on April 27, 1963 at Winfield, Iowa.

Jake was raised by David Phillips, Sr. as his own son and he was a devoted worker at the Phillips & Sons Sawmill for many years. Later in life he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and liked to visit at the “Williamstown Farm Club”. He was an avid Bill Elliot NASCAR fan and loved loud 50’s and 60’s rock & roll music.

He is survived by his wife Violet “Bernie” Murphy of Canton; children, Teresa (Roger) Kerr of Huntsville, Il., Cindy (Tim) Johnson of Canton, Wayne “Fid” (Lee Ann) Murphy, Jr. of Williamstown, and Debi Murphy-Duggins of Hampton, Va.; nine grandchildren, Sean Downs, Brandon Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Wayne “Jake” Murphy, III, Alexandra Murphy, Claire Murphy, Dustin Murphy, Derek Murphy and Drew Murphy; five great-grandchildren; eleven sisters and two brothers, Shirley English of Canton, Mary Jane Page of Montrose, Ia., Marilyn Garrels of Birmingham, Ia., Linda (Dan) Shirey of Canton, Vickie (Jerry) Lair of Williamstown, Angie (Rock) Schaller of Canton, Yvonne (Larry) Dudgeon of Centralia, David (Lora) Phillips, Jr. of Williamstown, Carmon Lindsey of Canton, Pam (Randall) Briscoe of Williamstown, Steve (Stephanie) Phillips of Canton, Gretchen Phillips of Kahoka and Robin Moffitt of Springfield, Il.; and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Donna Nelson and two brothers, Oral “Butch” Murphy and Rocky J. Phillips.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Canton with Pastor Wes Davis officiating. Burial will be in Zion Hill Cemetery in rural Monticello, Missouri.

Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4 until 8 PM with the family greeting friends after 6 PM at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Canton.

Memorials may be made to Blessing Cancer Center or Hospice of Northeast Missouri.

Pallbearers: Wayne ‘Fid” Murphy, Jr., Tim Johnson, Roger Kerr, David Phillips, Jr., Steve Phillips and Jerry Lair.
